The Second Glance

David RocheThis brilliant and inspiring short film was produced by Nic Askew about David Roche, a man who was born with a facial disfigurement and who spent years struggling with the impact of this in his life.

But finally, as David says, “When I was middle-aged, I found my voice.” He discovered his own inner beauty – and has since dedicated his life to helping others do the same.

Perhaps our deepest fear is that we don’t belong. To ‘the tribe’. That we’re separate.

And perhaps it’s this fear that drives us to ‘be a certain way’. In order to belong. And compels us to hide what we believe to be imperfect.

Perhaps the assumption of imperfection offers us the opportunity to catch a glimpse of our own true beauty.

Perhaps true beauty is to be seen beyond the judgement of a first glance hidden somewhere in the mystery beyond what we assume to be facing us – hidden in the possibility of your second glance.
