Most of our work comes from word of mouth, repeat business and from gold nuggets that are more valuable than gold itself.
I’m talking about the human gold nuggets that can make a big difference to any business – and certainly have made a difference to ours. To find human gold nuggets you need to do a lot of prospecting, digging, searching, sifting and travelling to various networking events, catch ups, functions and meetings. And sometimes after all that effort all you end up with is fools’ gold.
So what’s the difference?
A fools’ gold person:
- hides behind words and puffery
- refuses to share his toys
- is intelligent (sometimes) but unwise
- is as reliable as my car
- believes values get in the way of making a deal
- is unreachable unless there’s something to gain
A human gold nugget has the following characteristics:
- genuine
- willing to share
- knowledgeable
- reliable
- has positive values
- stays in touch
There’s plenty of fools’ gold out there and it’s easy to get dazzled by the glitter. But it’s very disheartening to discover you’re left holding something worthless.
So when you do find the real thing, treasure it!
