Aged Care: The Chair Chi Experience

Chair Chi TrainingWe ran our first Aged Care: Chair Chi Training Program – Level One workshop last Monday and it was a very enjoyable experience.

Usually I run 30 minute, 45 minute or one hour sessions for low care and high care residents in various aged care centres in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne and it was great to be able to  spend an entire day with the aged care professionals who attended the workshop.

It gave me the opportunity not only to teach the Level One Chair Chi exercises, but also to spend time in deep appreciative conversations on aged care. We shared stories about working with the elderly and there were a lot of nodding heads in agreement on various important issues.

I’ve found the Chi exercises and appreciative conversations a powerful way of encouraging, enthusing and empowering not only the elderly in aged care centres but also the professionals who work in these centres.

The feedback from those who attended were very positive, which I suppose is good for the ego … yes, I do have one :) … but more importantly it gives me feedback that the program is on the right track.

I’m now busy reviewing the manual and workshop so as to provide an even better experience when we run the next Level One workshop in 2014.
