Aged Care Reform: Advancing Quality in Dementia Care
21 June
Sydney, NSW
With the increase in our ageing population, Australia is facing greater challenges than ever to provide effective policies for aged care, chronic diseases and dementia care, as well as quality standards and service delivery. The Australian government’s aged care reform package, Living Longer Living Better, provides directions to improve care quality, enhance regulatory systems and foster evidence-based care. This symposium will give us the opportunity to begin a dialogue about these government directions. As key stakeholders, we can start to examine policies, practices and research that will enable ground-breaking reform in aged care.

ALS/MND Global Day
21 June
International
ALS and MND are abbreviations for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease respectively. ALS/MND is a neurological disease that affects over 350,000 of the world’s population, and kills over 100,000 every year. Every year since 1997, the International Alliance has celebrated 21 June as the global day of recognition of ALS/MND. June 21 is a solstice - a turning point - and each year the ALS/MND community undertake a range of activities to express their hope that this day will be another turning point in the search for cause, treatment and cure of this awful disease. This day allows us to recognise that we are not alone in our fight against ALS/MND, and that patients, carers, former carers, scientists, health care professionals, volunteers and many, many others are all part of this fight. Global Day is an event that knows no boundaries, so everybody can be involved. Any event (big or small), any activity, any act, can be a part of raising awareness of ALS/MND.

Each year, a diverse range of voices including State/ Territory AOD organisations, non-government organisations, community groups, the education sector, and the media join ADCA to speak out about alcohol and other drug-related issues. Anyone can get involved in DAW and the sky is the limit when it comes to organising your own DAW activity. Why not run an art competition, hold a seminar, arrange a picnic, or organise an information booth in a shopping centre? ADCA encourages everyone to get involved - together we can make a difference and help to reduce the damaging effects of alcohol and drug use in our communities.

Now in its 23rd year, the ride has definitely come a long way since its humble beginnings, when it attracted a modest 80 riders. This year to celebrate how far we've come we will be aiming to break more fundraising records and raise a sensational $1.2 million for people living with MS.
